Contributed English to Traditional Chinese localization for The Simpsons: Tapped Out, EA Mobile's long-running freemium city-building mobile game based on one of the most iconic TV franchises in history. Handled localization across regular game updates, keeping pace with a live service title that received content tied to show storylines, seasonal events, and holiday-themed episodes throughout the year.
Localizing for The Simpsons comes with a unique set of challenges. The franchise has an enormous cast of deeply established characters, each with their own distinct voice, catchphrases, and comedic style built up over decades. Keeping that personality intact in Traditional Chinese, while staying true to how these characters are already known to Chinese-speaking fans of the show, required careful attention to tone and consistency across every update.
The game was one of the longest-running mobile titles in history, delivering 308 updates, 831 characters, and 1,463 questlines across its 12-year lifespan before EA sunset the servers in January 2025. According to EA's own estimates, the game generated over $130 million in revenue, making it one of the most commercially successful mobile titles based on a TV license ever made.
